Arriving in Istanbul

I was dreading the 11-hour flight from San Francisco to Munich, but pleasantly surprised by Lufthansa and their amazing service. The  new Airbus  380 holds about 520 passengers and was sold out. However, I would guess that all of us were pleased with the flight. I had a nice dinner, watched a movie starring my favorite Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan, and the next thing I know, we were 3-1/2 hours from our destination. I NEVER sleep on a flight, so that was fabulous. In the morning I watched another movie, had breakfast and watched a funny TV show I'd never heard of before called "Don't trust the B**** in Apartment 23" which I enjoyed. And then we were there.

This was our meal on the 2-hour Lufthansa flight from Munich to Istanbul, plus drinks. Even red and white wine are free.

Lufthansa believes in good customer service. I love that airline. This was my first, and hopefully not my last, experience with them.

The Munich airport is also impressive. They have all kinds of areas to rest and relax and even sleep.

They have work stations and free computers which were occupied by teenage boys playing video games.

I never checked the price to take a nap. You just slide a credit card. But the rooms looked really cozy, if you didn't want to nap on a couch or the floor in the Relax room.

And smokers have their own lounge, thanks to Winston cigarettes.

I arrived at Istanbul airport at 10:50 p.m. I was happy to see recycling bins.

I was even happier to see my name on the shuttle bus driver's sign. It took a while for him to round up all of the other passengers, but by midnight I was at the hotel where my friend Phyllis Wachob's niece Michelle was already asleep in our room. The whole trip went so smoothly.
